Dhaagein

One must always count our blessings as some of us are not even equipped with basic amenities like shelter and clothing.

Even though we don’t want our old clothes anymore, it’s almost guaranteed that someone else does. There are disaster victims, underprivileged people, and children in need of clothing, and your donations can help. When you throw away your clothes, they have no chance of reaching people who need them the most.

With keeping this idea in mind, we at Girl Up Neev collaborated with Rotaract Club of NMIMS’ SOC for Dhaagein’- a clothes distribution drive. The event aimed to collect clothes and other kind donations from the privileged class to distribute them to those in need. Keeping in mind the current situation and the availability of members in different cities, the club planned to focus on 5 cities i.e., Mumbai, Delhi, Guwahati, Pune, and Nagpur. Apart from these cities, donations and distributions were made on small scale in other cities as well like Bangalore and Jamshedpur.

Over 2 weeks, 9 drives were conducted by RC NMIMS’ SOC and Girl Up Neev. Three drives were conducted on February 21st, 2021 in Bangalore, Delhi, and Mumbai; one drive was conducted on February 22nd, 2021 in Pune; one drive was conducted on February 24th, 2021 in Guwahati; one on February 26th, 2021 in Jamshedpur; and three more drives were conducted on February 28th, 2021 in Delhi, Nagpur and Mumbai.

1. Delhi: Over 35+ bags of clothes, books, and shoes were distributed in 2 drives. The drives were conducted in the slums of Delhi and Noida.

2. Mumbai: Over 40 bags of clothes, books, bedsheets, and shoes were distributed in 2 drives. The drives were conducted in the slums of Vile Parle, Nehru Nagar, and Bandra.

3. Pune: Around bags of clothes were donated to NGO called ‘Sevadeep’.

4. Guwahati: 15 bags of clothes were distributed during the drive. The clothes were distributed to people living on roadsides.

5. Bangalore: 10 big boxes of clothes and books were donated to two NGOs over the drive. The two NGOs were ‘Sri Sai Sneha Foundation’ and ‘Aapna Ashiyana Muslim Foundation’.

6. Jamshedpur: 7 bags of clothes were distributed to ‘People for Change’.

7. Nagpur: Around 15 bags of clothes were distributed in the slums of Nagpur during the drive. This drive was conducted in collaboration with ‘Agneepankh Foundation’.

This month-long event was a huge success as the club was able to donate about 120+ bags over the country and help over 1000+ individuals.
